She has a 7.1 Litre V8 engine and automatic transmission, period white wall tyres and is nearly 19 feet long, spacious enough for 5 passengers. Although a two door, its a big door and easy to get in and out of. Being a hard top it means there is no door pillar, so the whole side of the car is open when all the windows are down, helping with access and great for photos. She is quite a rare car world wide and has been used by a number of magazines both in the UK and USA including Cosmopolitan Bride magazine, and a number of PR promotions. Mercury was Ford's branch of the luxury market and 1959 was Mercury's 20th anniversary. In the 50's owners and their teenager children would cruise the highways showing of the new sleek dynamic design style, panoramic wraparound front and rear screens, metallic paint. Hence the nick name parklane cruisers which resulted in the naming of a derivative as such. |
